From Canvas to Closet: What is Wearable Art?

Today I'm thrilled to share a story that has been years in the making—the journey from canvas to closet, a creative odyssey that brings together the worlds of fashion and art like never before.

Let's start at the beginning—with Easel Stories Art Gallery, a haven for emerging artists seeking a platform to share their creations with the world. Founded in 2015 by the dynamic duo, Tarunima and Akshay Chandra, Easel Stories embarked on a mission to bridge the gap between untapped artistic talent and eager audiences worldwide.

Tarunima, a seasoned photographer, and I go way back to the earliest days of my styling career. Our paths first crossed on a styling project, where I met Akshay, who shared his vision of transforming paintings onto clothing. Little did we know, this spark of an idea would evolve into a groundbreaking collaboration.

Graykloud was born out of a desire to infuse my personal style into the streetwear genre.

Akshay ventured into the world of art management after earning his MBA. His global exposure, including studies at institutions like Sotheby's Institute of Arts, London, and courses at Christie's and the Museum of Modern Art, shaped his understanding of the art world.

Our paths converged over time, and after three years of discussions and idea exchanges, the concept of WEARABLE ART, emerged.

Wearable art, is more than just clothing. It's a canvas for self-expression, a fusion of fashion and artistic mastery. Our collaboration with Easel Stories is a modern tribute to Indian creativity, blending art seamlessly with streetwear trends.

In this unique collection, we've chosen paintings from the talented A. Viswam, a senior artist whose work speaks volumes. As he aptly describes it, our wearable art transcends spaces, taking on ever-evolving shapes and meanings as it travels through the world.

Our mission is —to elevate Indian artists and make art accessible to all by transforming it into clothing. This collaboration with Easel Stories is a step towards that vision, a celebration of artistry in every stitch and print. It's a testament to the enduring relationship between Graykloud and Easel Stories—a bond forged in creativity and a shared commitment to pushing boundaries.
